The terror in Eritrea

20 years ago, many people in the "free world" supported the Eritrean fight for independence from Ethiopia. Now, that support is giving us a bad taste in our mouths.

What happened when the Eritreans succeeded in establishing their own country? It turned into one of the most repressive regimes on Earth.
One example of this is the fate of Swedish citizen Dawit Isaak, journalist who returned to his native lands (now Eritrea) to report.
He was caught and thrown into prison, and yesterday the Eritrean president commented thus on the case:
"He will not be put on trial and he will not be released. We know how to deal with him and others like him."
These are the words of the president of a nation.
Isn't that enough reason for world wide isolation of Eritrea? Enough reason for the International Court of Justice in The Hague to bring that asshole of a president to charge?

Where were you and the "free world" when Ethiopia tried to Grab a sea outlet that killed 19,000 Eritreans defending themselves and more than 100,000 Ethiopians that were used as cannon fodders.

Where were you and the "free world" when US tried illegally reverse the Hague based international border commission ruling that vindicated Eritrea, but US and the so called "free world" took Ethiopia's side inspite of the ruling because they want to use Ethiopia as proxy gun for hire.

Simon,

I do not defend atrocities
from the Ethiopian government - or from any other government, in Africa (where they seem to be abundant) or elsewhere.
Of course there was a reason why "we" supported Eritrea in their fight for independence.

My point is to express the frustration I am sure many of us feel today over the way the new Eritrean nation handle issues of democracy, freedom of speech etcetera.
